Maksuda Iqbal Nipa: 2018 Studio Visit

We don't just represent our artists. They are our friends. When friends get together in Bangladesh, they have cha (tea). But you don't have tea on its own. You also have taa (snacks to accompany the tea). The reason I'm going into so much detail here is that tea drinking is culturally significant. Also, Nipa's presentation is on point.

Immediately you'll notice the East Asian influences in her china (she studies in Japan). She perfectly balanced the sweetness of the Rasgullas and Gulab Jamun with the savory of the olives. Of course, not tea is complete with the biscuits (cookies to you Americans).

One of the most exciting ways to discover new artists is to see them in action inside their studios. To help you get to know Maksuda Iqbal Nipa, we invite you to preview her works in progress in 2018, learn about what inspires them, and see their work hanging on their studio walls or in recent exhibitions.
